Mycena identification workshop.

In this hands-on workshop, learn to recognize and appreciate the macroscopic and microscopic characters used in the identification of the >200 North American species of the mushroom genus Mycena. Mycena expert Prof. Roland Treu (Athabasca University, Athabasca Alberta) will lead this workshop, which will take place in a University of Alberta teaching laboratories. Mycenas produce elegant, minute mushrooms that are challenging to identify in spite of their beautiful, diverse, and distinctive microscopic features. Many N. American species remain undescribed. Yet the genus is ecologically important in wood decay and many species are common and strikingly abundant. This workshop, open to students and amateur and professional mycologists will lead to improved understanding of Mycena systematics by fostering collaborations among citizen scientists and academic scientists and building depth in community expertise.
Basic microscopy skills would be an advantage.
Fees for students and amateurs: $65.00 CA$
Fees for professional mycologists: $100.00 CA$
If the registration numbers do not support the anticipated expenses, we will cancel the workshop.
