Mycological Section Grace, Chris [1], Desjardin, Dennis [2], Perry, Brian [3]. A Preliminary Monograph of Marasmius from São Tomé and Príncipe. Our research serves to describe 30 collections of Marasmius, made up of 21 species, from the African island nation of São Tomé and PrÃncipe (ST & P). Macroscopic and microscopic morphological descriptions of these collections as well as DNA sequence data were used to determine the number of species present and circumscribe their taxa. 3 of the species collected are believed to represent species new to science. All of the species described have not previously been documented on ST & P. Prior to the collection of these specimens, only one Marasmius species, M. collinus (as Collybia collina), had been documented from these islands. Phylogenetic hypotheses have been generated of the ST & P specimens and all borrowed collections to explore their evolutionary relationships. This phylogeny is based on analyses of sequences of the Internal Transcribed Spacer regions (ITS1+5.8S+ITS2) of the ribosomal subunit and the DNA-directed RNA polymerase II subunit (RPB2).
