Celebrating More Than Three Decades of Research in Nymphaeales: A Colloquium Honoring Ed Schneider.

Edward (Ed) L. Schneider has contributed greatly to our knowledge of water lily structure and function for over 30 years. An honoree of the International Water Lily Society Hall of Fame, Ed has balanced a rewarding career in tearching and research with concurrent administrative duties that began in the 1980s at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX. He served as president and CEO of the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden from 1992 - 2010, and in 2010, he became director of the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum and professor in the department of Horticultural Sciences at the University of Minnesota (Twin Cities). Ed is past president of the Botanical Society of America, and he has been a recipient of the society's Merit Award and Centennial Medallion. In this colloquium, scholars representing structural botany, systematics, and paleobotany will showcase Ed’s foundational work in our current understanding of the biology of Nymphaeales. Ed has been a mentor, friend, and valued colleague in BSA, and we are pleased to be able to honor him prior to retirement.
