Regional Botany Special Lecture Hole, Jim [1]. Does beer make a good fertilizer? Maybe, maybe not, but the important thing is that it got your attention. A recent report for the Botany Society of America entitled Botany for the Next Millenium, contained a statement of ‘the need for strengthening education and communication about plants and botanical sciences at all levels of society’. But getting people to listen to, and become interested in plants and the botanical sciences often requires a narrative - sometimes quirky – to open the door. Shrinking this gap between botanical science and the average non-botanical citizen has been a lifelong priority for Jim Hole during his 30 year career as the owner of a commercial greenhouse business. Jim is also a gardening columnist on both TV, Radio and newspaper, and author of several books that focuses –to a large extent – on what makes plants tick. Through his many years of dealing with the media, Jim’s presentation will suggest some of the best ways that he has found to get the message out about the exciting worlds of plant science and botany. Jim will also incorporate some of the interesting aspects of the Edmonton ‘ecoregion’. Log in to add this item to your schedule
