Effects Of Environmental Factors On Air-Borne Fungi In Relation To Deterioration Of Museum Specimens.

Environmental factors play an important role on the works of arts and antiquities. It has a direct effect on museum specimens and air-borne microorganisms around the museum specimens. Environmental factors influence the deterioration of museum specimens in two ways. Firstly, they affect on or within the materials that results from free radical and inonic reactions. The first kind inclludes auto-oxidation reaction, usually initiated by thermal or photochemical energy input from the environment. Secondly, they affect on photochemical process involved in the growth and development of the saprophytic microorganisms, which develop on museum specimens. Environmental changes that occur around the museum specimens are mainly natural, i.e., variation in temperature, rainfall and humidity. Alteration of such factors in nature and the results of such alteration are important factor for museum specimens.
