Mycological Section Mata, Juan Luis [1]. New records of collybioid Fungi for Costa Rica. Collybioid mushrooms were recently collected in mountainous forested regions from the Central Valley of Costa Rica. Mushrooms were morphologically analyzed and subjected to DNA extraction, PCR and sequencing. Edited ITS sequences were blasted for matches in GenBank. Best matches, together with a dataset of sequences representing collybioid agarics from the U.S. Gulf Coast, were used to run a phylogenetic analysis. For the genus Rhodocollybia, a new species is proposed, R. olivasceo-grisea, nested within the butyraea clade. Gymnopus species previously known only from the Talamanca Mountain Range are now reported for the Central Volcanic Range. This is the case for G. cylindricus, G. pseudolodgeae, and G. mesoamericanus. Other Gymnopus specimens, not yet described, fall out across all sections in the genus, and attest the high diversity for this group in the Neotropics. Log in to add this item to your schedule
