Changes of Ultrastructure of Differentiating Tracheid in Cunninghamia lanceolata (Lamb.) Hook.

Cunninghamia lanceolata (Lamb.) Hook. is native tree of China. It also is widely planted in most of southern province in China. Grows fast and behaves well in pulp and paper making, it is one of the fast growing trees which are the sustainable development of China’s paper industry. There are a lot of thesis about Cunninghamia lanceolata (Lamb.) Hook., but no article about tracheids differentiation of its. In this research, C. lanceolata (Lamb.) Hook. was choosened as target for study on its tracheid differentiation. During differentiation and development of tracheid in C. lanceolata (Lamb.) Hook., the fine ultrastructure were examined using transmission electron microscopy. The main results are followed. The xylem mother cells of vascular cambium in C. lanceolata (Lamb.) Hook. differentiated into tracheids. There are four stages in process of tracheid developing:â‘´The radial expanding of mother tracheid;⑵The forming of bordered pits;⑶Thickening of secondary wall;â‘·The autolysis of protoplasm. In early differentiating, radial diameter of mother tracheid is wider 3-5 times than that of xylem mother cell. Then, it is observed that forming of bordered pit. At same time, secondary wall begins to thicken. Finally, the tacheids form bordered pits with torus, and the development torus does not relate to microtubule. In the process of secondary wall thickening, the foem of cellulose microfible is closely related to pasmalemma and rosette. The endoplasmic reticulum, dictyosome, plasmalemma and periplasmic space act as important role in the process of secondary wall thickening. The substance from protoplasm autolysis transits into two ways: A. involving into secondary wall forming. B. transferring into ray cell of xylem. During tracheid differentiating, the microtubule array changes. The microtubules arrange randomly in xylem mother cell of vascular cambium, then they become ordered with differentiating of tracheid.
